In the words of the organization itself " Adventures in mission is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. They emphasize prayer and relationships in their work amongst the poor. Since they were established in 1989, they have taken over 100,000 people into the mission field, some for as short as a week and others for as long as a year or longer(<------Absolute goal for me to go for a year or longer, I'm just saying). In several places around the world they minister year round to "the least of these". They believe that by giving people the opportunity to hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and pray for the sick, lives are transformed. They seek to disciple as Jesus did; their vision is that God would use them to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus Christ."
How awesome is that? That is an organization I want to be a part of. Count me in , where do I sign the dotted line(I apparently have a thing for work where you have to sign up for years of service =) lol)?So they do have a page that lists the organizations beliefs and stance on spiritual gifts , etc. Click on the link to read more about it. AIMS beliefs etc.
I found out about this organization when I was in Miami, At my church Metro church some friends knew I was into mission work and had referred me to a young man that had did a mission trip with this group. Except his was super awesome because he participated in the world race which goes to 11 countries in 11 months. Any how that when I first heard about it.Then when I arrived here in San Diego my new life group leader had actually participated with AIM and highly recommended it for my mission heart =).What really draws me to this group is their Ministry Distinctive.
- They emphasize discipleship over evangelism-They believe Jesus not only called to say prayer but enter into a lifestyle. Not only do they witness but they follow up.
- They emphasize the church without walls-they go to those needing ministry rather than expecting them to come to them. That's awesome and the relationships that transpire because of it is a blessing.
- They emphasize ministry to the poor, the oppressed, and the hopeless-the lost sheep that society shuns, in a given city, they will go to that darkest and most hopeless place first.
- They mobilize and make disciples
- They empower people to go and grow something.
Check out this video of some of the work that has happened in Cambodia.
